Hello world! And by world I mean internet. And by internet I mean the few friends and family members who will actually read this blog. Occasionally. Maybe.
If you've ended up in this small corner of the world wide web then you probably know me and know all about my trip to Ghana next year. If you don't know me and are just here for fun then I think you're kinda creepy, but I will indulge you for a moment and give you a brief description of why this blog even exists.
On the 4th February 2012 I fly to Ghana. After a short training course in Accra, I will then move on to Akim Achiase in the Eastern Region of Ghana, where I will be teaching science and maths in the Victory Assemblies of God International School (or VAGIS for short). Hopefully I will also be doing some extra-curricular stuff too, as well as exploring the amazing country I am lucky enough to be visiting. That's five months of my life condensed into three sentences.
So why now, then? If this trip isn't until next year, why start this blog now? Well, in case you haven't worked it out from the title, my journey begins exactly 10 weeks today. Oh boy.
Yesterday I was down in Reading for my pre-departure briefing with Lattitude Global Volunteering. It's odd, because right now I can't comprehend that this is actually happening, that I will be living in Achiase for five whole months. It's mental. I've been planning this trip for so long that it just doesn't feel like a real thing. I don't know when it will feel real. Maybe when I get on that plane. Or maybe not even then. It might be when I land in Accra, or when I arrive in Achiase, or it might be when I've been living there for two months and I suddenly think to myself "Wow. This is it". Who knows?
So because it doesn't seem real yet, there hasn't been much excitement really. But spending a whole day yesterday talking about the trip has stirred up a kind of longing inside of me.
I just want my adventure to begin.
